Analog
Most of my family photos were taken with one of my analog cameras. I've owned many different cameras along the years from Leica to canon and Rollie, but today I am carrying my heavy twin lens medium format Mamiya C3 whenever I can.
Portrait of a fisherman in south Portugal: This old and fearless fisherman had been fishing for hours on the edge of a cliff 50 or more meter above the Atlantic. I set behind him admiring the ocean and his tranquility, while waiting for him to finish his day so I could ask if I could photograph him. Portugal 12 / 2016
Man in or out of a Caravan window: once, while filming a circus show in a caravan park I saw this sight which reminded me of my childhood when people were hanging at their windows or sitting at the entrance to their houses. And when the threshold between the outside and inside was a compromising place when you wanted to stay at home and still be outside. 05/ 2018
Portrait of Bernard "Pretty" Purdie: Famous for his Purdie Shuffle, Bernard "Pretty" Purdie is one of the best and well appreciated drummers in the world. I watched a few videos of Bernard Purdie when I was younger but never thought I’ll ever have the chance to meet the “Hall of Fame” musician. One day while filming a Fred Wesley Concert in a unique recording studio in Lichtenstein "The Shuffler" arrived as a guest drummer and I didn’t hesitate as you can see. 11/ 2018
Guraletschbach: On August 2018 my wife and I went on a hike with other 2 friends on what we find to be one of the most beautiful places in Switzerland. The Guraletschsee. On the way up I took the time to bring back my breath and attempt once again to capture nature. When I look at this photo I ask myself, from where this water comes and where does it flow to. I know the answer but I have the need to be able to see it in a photo. 08.2018

Portrait of a Greek Priest. Black Frame. As I arrived on a tiny one room monastery above Tyros/ Greece I saw an Orthodox Priest about to leave and walk back the 1 hour walk way back to the village. I pointed at my camera and asked if I could take a portrait of him. He nodded positively. It took me two minutes to set up the frame on my old twin lens Mamyia and the priest got restless I raced the process and took 3 shots of the pries. Later,I discovered that I forgot to lift the shutter that protect the film and there was no exposure in all these photos. Yet, the priest old and wrinkled face in the frame as well as his smoky smell are still carved in my memory.
Once In Formentera / Spain, on a documentary job with Edition Frida on the movie “Hanschi Charlie” I asked Charlie Lens who took us in his car through the island to stop in the only piece of land that had a different view from any other spots on the island. It looked chaotic and yet interesting, a collage of agriculture machines, parts from buildings and a collection of just old and used stuff. The placed looked a mess to anyone who drove this road but between his treasure of random objects, run and ate the most beautiful healthy looking chickens which nourished in this chaotic and protective view. I don’t know what was the sweet man’s name. We just called him Messi.

In 2001 I went travelling for 9 months. I decided to buy myself a film camera so I could keep these sights I will see with me for the years to come. I took a quick film photography course from a friend who wondered why I don’t just get a digital camera, bought about 20 films and my ever first canon film camera and went on my way. Years after, I looked back on almost thousand photos I took during these 9 months travel and the prints just take me back to the many places I’ve been in, the mountain freshness and the free spirit that a nine months travel brings with it. Taking a photo with an analog camera takes time, but the print will stay with me for the years to come just like the photos my father used to take when I was a kid.
